Like a blank canvas, Cloud Dancer symbolizes our yearning for a fresh start. Letting go of old, limiting thought patterns creates space for new ideas to grow. One of this spring’s fashion trends is colour blocking. Usually, we associate spring fashion with soft florals and soothing pastels.

On the Paris runways, Loewe, Dior and Fendi were awash in rainbow-bright yellows, reds and greens, with some colour mixing for drama. But I have always found a woman in white attractive for breaking up any colour spectrum, regardless of the season. 

Since the industrial revolution, white serves as a conscious statement of luxury, whether worn as a classic button-down, T-shirt, or jeans, or in activewear and suiting.

Colour forecaster Pantone has released their fashion colour predictions for 2022 which is Very Peri, a blue-purple hue. Plus many more blue tones, Spun Sugar (a pastel blue), Glacier Lake (a powdery blue), Skydiver (a bright blue) and Harbor Blue (a dark blue-green).

Many of Pantone’s 2022 colour pallet reflect nature. Pantone’s Daffodil, a bright yellow is said to replicate a spring garden. Along with Perfectly Pale, a beige hue, references a warm tropical beach.

Go bold 

From the streets of Paris to Milan, green color footwear is the choice of many fashion designers and influencers this spring.

Bright colour jackets on women are expected, oversized and layered over form fitting tops.

Last year’s lava orange color trend is now replaced by neon colors for both men and women, especially with athleisure wear.

Preppy is back

From the SS 22 shows, the Ivy Preppy style is back. Watch for plaid skirt suits paired with a crop top or bra for the active women.

You will see newer lighter colored plaids in store this spring, worn in multiple pieces or as a one statement piece.

Gender fluidity

Also, watch for more oversize blazers and trousers as part of a more gender fluidity in styles for both men and women.

European luxury designers are full of optimism with their new collections. Let the fashion spring colors of 2022 season begin.

Nonetheless, the fashion world soldiers on and, after reviewing many of the European luxury spring runway shows, here are my top three spring fashion trends for today’s woman.

Wild side: Sensual lace

Saint Laurent’s resort collection was all about the 90s. Remember Kate Moss’ wardrobe of vintage lace, silk camisoles and slip dresses?

This season, underwear is once again outerwear. Now paired with long blazers, cardigans, miniskirts or faded jeans, the emphasis is on comfort. 

At home, this look is easy and effortless, if a little wild. Early zoom meeting? Forego the common t-shirt and throw a blazer over your camisole or bralette.

However, you wear them, all are classic pieces that are smart investments for seasons to come.

Colour: Mint green

Pantone’s Color of the Year gave us illuminating yellow and ultimate grey while Hermes’ spring runway show presented us with butter yellow.

But my luxury buyer experience is betting on mint green as the must-buy colour of the season. It has a more youthful vibe, compliments more skin tones, and makes a terrific accent colour for accessories.

So, watch for mint green dresses and outerwear plus accessories such as sneakers and handbags for a playful colourful sporty style this spring.

Trench coat

In a world of uncertainty, fashion designers have gone back to basics, reinventing the classic trench coat.

Louis Vuitton, Prada and Nina Ricci all offer trench coats with a twist: from dramatic lapels and bold sleeves to curious side slits, drop waists and belts.

For spring, a cinched waist was big on the runway. Choose a belted trench coat that will emphasize your silhouette and leave the baggy, bulky and balloon-like winter coats behind as we look to warmer weather and longer days.

COVID-friendly fashion

As fashion designers have adjusted to pandemic life, their socially distanced luxury spring runway shows remain focused on home comfort.

But despite the continued emphasis on COVID-friendly fashion, I’m optimistic that by working together to keep family and colleagues safe, we will come out of this sooner rather than later.

There are signs of life in the luxury fashion realm. While spending on luxury fashion is down, the amount of the average sales transaction is up.

This demonstrates that the high fashion houses that focus on their core values of quality, exclusivity, and customer experience will weather the current storm.

Also, with more luxury designers focusing on fashion sustainability and with sales reflecting clients choosing quality over quantity, the industry is changing for the better.

Like many fashion trends, rose gold first appeared on the European runways. In 2012, designers like Roberto Cavalli and Jimmy Choo offered rose gold pieces which have evolved into the metallic looks that we all see today.

Pop culture also played a significant part in this color phenomenon. The release of Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel in 2014, with its luxurious pink interiors, captivated audiences worldwide and reinforced the burgeoning trend.

Next was the introduction of the Apple iPhone 6S in September of 2015 which came in four metallic hues. The rose gold version exploded on the mass market. Millennials everywhere wanted a rose gold phone and 40% of pre-sales were for the rose gold model. As a result of its apparent popularity, in 2016 the color became the Pantone Color of the Year under the signature name of Rose Quartz. Today, you can still purchase a rose gold iPhone 7 at the Apple store.

Millennials of both genders have been in love with this unique pink shade – also referred to as Millennial Pink. A truly gender-neutral colour, actresses in all pink gowns and actors in head-to-toe pink suits are now part of the red-carpet scene in Hollywood.

Instagram feeds are a testament to the ubiquity of rose gold. The color can be found everywhere on the popular app, from posts on beauty, fashion and jewelry to images featuring home décor, wedding cakes and bridal couture.

Though the Pantone Color of the Year for 2018 is lilac, my European luxury fashion designer colleagues tell me that rose gold continues to be their number one seller especially for jewelry and accessories. In Europe, consumer researchers report that women perceive rose gold as feminine and elegant with a superior value. In Italy, rose gold kitchens are now all the rage.

Walking the fashionable streets of London, Paris and Milan this summer, you will inevitably find rose gold on the well-dressed set. From the runways of Europe to the Instagram feeds of celebrities and influencers, rose gold is still the color to beat. We haven’t tired of it yet. On the contrary, we can’t seem to get enough.
