Unique to the brand is that Jude Taylor does not follow industry color trends, she is driven by her instinct resulting in distinctive eye-catching colors which are not commonly found in stores. 

As a fashion designer, one of her principals is to create trans-seasonal garments that are outside of the fast fashion cycle. Thus, she only produces high quality and classic designs that will accompany the owner for years, ensuring value and sustainability for our world.

Jude Taylor resort collection includes high-quality natural fibers such as silk, linen, bamboo and cotton. Her EFWA runway show was a tribute to the beauty of Western Australia’s wildflowers and landscape.

Held at the Fremantle Community Bank Oval, seven local plus one international designer presented along with student capsule collections from ECU University which will be previewed in a future story.

Opening the evening was Perth based Skylark the Label who impressed the crowd with stylish casual to sophisticated evening looks.

Ngali presented unique pattern dresses created by indigenous artists and artisans followed by Classic Couture Vintage & Bridal that captured the hearts of the audience with breathtaking gowns.

The Shire Seamstress presented bridal looks for formal to casual weddings and special occasions.

Handmade eco-conscious clothing by Gemini Kite was best described by EFWA master of ceremonies Angela Ayers, “their collection would make any women a princess of the outback.”

Curtin Springs runway show of jewelry and clothing collections with 30 models thrilled everyone while Sylvia Calvo of Barcelona rocked the night with a stylist men’s and women’s collection made of organic fabrics and recycled coffee bean bags.

Eco Fashion Week Australia has partnered with Fremantle-based wool merchant, Scanlan Wools Pty and their partnering company Sunshine Textile Group from China to challenge local design students and established eco-designers to create one unique garment using only three square meters of Merino fabric.

Since the late 1700’s, wool has been very much a part of the Australian landscape. Western Australia now produces 71 million kg wool per year with over 95% of Merino wool destined for the luxury fashion market.

A total of ten student designers from Western Australia educational institutes plus six eco designers received Western Australian Marino wool that is created with superfine 18.5 micron fibers from Scanlan’s Merino wool growers, was sent to China to be woven at Sunshine’s’ wool mills and returned to Perth to be created into custom garments.

Last evening at EFWA, the final results on the runway were amazing. From high fashion glamour of long dresses and casual street style to children’s wear.

Eco-friendly consumers want to know how and where they fabrics are made these fashion designers has shown that Australia Merino wool is the choice when it comes to style, comfort and sustainability.

On opening night, Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu stated, “our economy is the environment”.

EFWA Master of Ceremonies Angie Ayers concluded four fabulous days of eco-friendly designer shows with a heartfelt challenge that even the smallest gesture can make a difference. Stated passionately, we must take care of our oceans for future generations.

The highlight of the evening was Zuzana Hrubosfrom Prague who present European chic outfits accented with led lighting. Made from natural textiles, including sustainable fabrics, all are made in Europe. Her look would not be out of place in Berlins’ stylist street scene.

Another inspiring fashion show was The Junk Weaversfrom Carins who hold workshops on how to create fashion accessories such as handbags from recycled wrappers and other materials.

The final runway show of the evening was fashion art by Studio Membrane. Titled “The Claws of Clothes”, if clothing had claws, how would this change their state of existence? The garments are created without any sewing and made from wool and wool resin which is biodegradable.

The crowning achievement of EFWA was the support of over 30 Australian and international fashion designers and another 60 plus volunteers producing a world class eco-fashion show in Port Douglas, demonstrating their support for the Great Barrier Reef restoration and the Daintree rainforest.

EFWA founder Zuhal Kuvan-Mills and her talented team now return to Perth for an even bigger set of eco-fashion runway shows at the Fremantle Community Bank Oval from November 15 – 19th.

Held at the Community Centre in Port Douglas, fashion designers attending Eco Fashion Week Australia are all committed to using the best in organic, handmade, local, re/up-cycled, and fair trade ethically produced fabrics and accessories.

Local Port Douglas fashion designer Leah Kelly runway show presented handmade organic garments with fine embroidery and beading offering an elegant style was rewarded with exhilarating applause.

Along with Australian designer Jude Taylor who demonstrated how her colourful native wild flower prints can be worn with awesome style. Closing out the evening was Curtin Springs artisan jewelry collection from Alice Springs region dazzled visiting media and locals that evening, all wanting more.

Eco Fashion Week Australia (EFWA) third evening of runway shows demonstrated that sustainability and high fashion goes hand in hand.

Eight fashion designers presented in Port Douglas, home of the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Raintree Rainforest. Showcasing Australian made artistic print activewear and chic organic dresses from Barcelona to elegant hand-crafted couture.
