<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">VMF Winter Arts, a free outdoor celebration across downtown Vancouver will transform the city’s core into an interactive, open-air gallery, and celebration of art and live entertainment from February 11 &#8211; 27th.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">Produced by the <a href="https://www.winterartsfest.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vancouver Mural Festival</a> (VMF) and presented by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, now in its second year brings together augmented reality (AR) art, light installations, and live performances to brighten the city and safety connect communities outside.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">As the VMF Winter Arts was created last year during the pandemic, physical safety and mental well-being remains at the forefront. The event is designed to inspire joy and creativity, connect communities, encourage outdoor activity and support local businesses and artist, all while enabling social distancing and a safe, welcoming outdoor space.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">Over 17 days, free public art and entertainment can be discovered along the VMF Winter Arts route from Canada Place, along Burrard to Bentall Centre and Park Place, to the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver Public Library Square and Yaletown, plus BC Place and Science World.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">At the centre of it all will be the Winter Arts Hub, located on north side of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Here you will be able to eat, drink and be entertained with art installations, a live performance stage, plus a heated and covered outdoor space with a pop-up bar and food trucks.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">May it be weekend fun, after-work happy hour, post-shopping break or pre-dinner drinks, the VMF Winter Arts Hub in downtown Vancouver is where you want to be. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">The <a href="https://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vancouver Art Gallery</a> (VAG) presents <em>Growing Freedom: The instructions of Yoko Ono / The art of John and Yoko</em>, an unique exhibition that celebrates the work of renown conceptual and performance artist of the 20th and 21st century.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">As you tour the exhibition <em>Growing Freedom: The instructions of Yoko Ono / The art of John and Yoko</em>, you will find that it is organized in two parts. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">The first part focuses on Ono’s instruction works, which breaks down barriers between artist disciplines and emphasizes her radical approach to art making.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="font-size:18px">Above Photo by Keith McMillan ©Yoko Ono</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-vag-yoko-ono-exhibition-invites-viewers-to-participate">VAG Yoko Ono exhibition invites viewers to participate</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">This is done by inviting the viewer to participate in the artist process, Ono not only creates works that continue to grow and change, but also thwarts the conventions of the art market.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">The VAG Yoko Ono exhibition invites visitors to complete a work of art such as the <em>Painting to Hammer a Nail,</em> <em>1966 / 2021</em> where you hammer a nail into a blank white canvas and writing about their mothers on a sticky note and attaching it to the gallery wall, <em>My Mommy is Beautiful</em> <em>2004 / 2021.</em></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-yoko-ono-and-john-lennon-peace-campaign">Yoko Ono and John Lennon peace campaign</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">The second part of the exhibition presents an arc of co-projects for peace undertaken by Ono and Lennon.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">Most notability is the&nbsp;<em>War is Over! (If you want it)</em>&nbsp;peace campaign (1969) and&nbsp;<em>Bed-in for Peace</em>&nbsp;(1969) images which features the stories of various people who participated in Ono and Lennon’s art projects, told in their own voices and words.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="687" height="1024" src="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Ono_03-687x1024.jpg" alt="VAG Yoko Ono John Lennon" class="wp-image-2802" srcset="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Ono_03-687x1024.jpg 687w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Ono_03-201x300.jpg 201w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Ono_03-600x894.jpg 600w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Ono_03.jpg 725w" sizes="(max-width: 687px) 100vw, 687px" /><figcaption>Yoko Ono and John Lennon
 &#8220;Bed-In For Peace&#8221; 1969
Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Montreal, Canada.
Photo by Ivor Sharp. ©Yoko Ono</figcaption></figure></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-canadian-connection">Canadian connection</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">In 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono visited Montreal and Ottawa which included a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to promote world peace is part of this exhibition.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph">The &#8220;power to imagine is the power for action&#8221; was my take away from this exhibition, reflecting our activisim past and present.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph"><em>Growing Freedom: The instructions of Yoko Ono / The art of John and Yoko</em> exhibition is at the VAG until May 1, 2022.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After nearly 17 years in Chinatown,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.vanfashionweek.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Vancouver Fashion Week (opens in a new tab)">Vancouver Fashion Week</a> has found a new home at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza. The Spring/Summer 2019 runway shows were staged in a large white tent, reminiscent of fashion capitals of the world, Paris, London &amp; Milan.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In front of the main entrance, brightly blazing white lights spelled out the signature “VFW”. To hordes of fashionistas, influencers and others ‘in the know’, this signified that local and international designers had descended on the city to showcase their talent over seven fabulous days.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignwide"><img decoding="async" width="614" height="1024" src="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-614x1024.jpg" alt="Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau" class="wp-image-721" srcset="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-614x1024.jpg 614w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-180x300.jpg 180w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-600x1000.jpg 600w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau.jpg 660w" sizes="(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px" /></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Bright Lights &amp; White Tents</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The large white tents, which created the perfect backdrop for the fashion collections, provided a unique energy and excitement to the local community and we hope that this will be VFW’s new home.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignwide"><img decoding="async" width="614" height="1024" src="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau3A103101-614x1024.jpg" alt="Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau" class="wp-image-722" srcset="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau3A103101-614x1024.jpg 614w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau3A103101-180x300.jpg 180w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau3A103101-600x1000.jpg 600w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau3A103101.jpg 660w" sizes="(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px" /></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Vancouver Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019 Collections</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Monday evening was Vancouver Fashion Week’s Opening Gala which featured single ensembles by over 20 designers as well as two designer collections. Phuong My’s stylish collection of women’s evening wear kicked off VFW’s first year at its new location.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Phuong My</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Vietnamese-born My, a graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, launched her label in 2013, catering to stylish Asian women, including many celebrities.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Her collection at VFW featured luxury materials and shaped gowns of the sort that would be found on the red carpet in Asia and the Middle East.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignwide"><img decoding="async" width="614" height="1024" src="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-3A102842-2-614x1024.jpg" alt="Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau" class="wp-image-723" srcset="https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-3A102842-2-614x1024.jpg 614w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-3A102842-2-180x300.jpg 180w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-3A102842-2-600x1000.jpg 600w, https://styledrama.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Phoung-My-SS19-VFW-Simon-Lau-3A102842-2.jpg 660w" sizes="(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Having exhibited her designs in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Singapore, Perth and Dubai, she now has 30 retail locations in 20 countries stretching from France and Italy to Dubai and Southeast Asia. With her international credentials and global reach, this up-and-coming style superstar was just the right designer to launch Vancouver Fashion Week’s new downtown location.</p>
