For Canadians who cannot resist shopping on Black Friday weekend, Snohomish County, just south of Vancouver in Washington state, offers an exclusive Stay Shop & Save discount program, a great buy for those wanting to stay overnight. The program includes several comfortable choices at the Holiday Inn, Hilton, Hampton, Embassy Suites, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, La Quinta or Marriott. Each booking comes with a VIP pass that includes special offers at Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip as well as discounts for stores at Everett Mall and Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood.
There are many who simply live for the deal. Finding that marked down designer handbag, discounted must-have electronic device or perfect little black dress on sale is enough to make some shoppers’ hearts race with pleasure. Black Friday, with its promise of unbeatable bargains, is now not only the biggest shopping day of the year in America but also -would you believe? – in the UK and Canada from 2013 as well.
It’s not uncommon for some American stores to open on Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 24 – and remain open for 46 hours straight, closing on Friday night. These long hours give a whole new meaning to the phrase “shop ‘til you drop”. However, whether you prefer power shopping at the mall or wandering the high street of a pretty town, Snohomish County has something for every Black Friday bargain hunter.
Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip houses a collection of 125 brand-name outlet stores with luxury and designer goods at discounted prices. It opens at noon on the 24th and will remain open until 10 p.m. the following day. On-site festivities include roving carolers, cookie decorating and treats for the kids plus hot chocolate for VIP shoppers.
Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood is the region’s indoor/outdoor destination shopping and lifestyle centre with dozens of upscale shops and boutiques. It opens at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and will close at midnight. Black Friday hours are from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Another regional shopping centre, Everett Mall, offers excellent shopping, dining, health, beauty and entertainment experiences to its patrons. Though Everett Mall will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, some stores will be open. On Black Friday, the doors open at 6 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
For those who prefer to do their bargain hunting out of doors, the street shopping in several of Snohomish County’s communities is exceptional, offering boutique and antique options.
Known as the “Antique Capital of the Northwest”, historic downtown Snohomish has an amazing shopping district with gorgeous river views. You will enjoy strolling among the city’s late 19th and early 20th century buildings as you explore the shops of more than 350 antiques and collectibles dealers.
Repeatedly voted the friendliest town in Western Washington, Edmonds is an exemplary sea town you don’t want to miss. With a pedestrian-friendly downtown, a central fountain, sidewalk cafes, art galleries and boutique shopping, Edmonds is where you are certain to find that one of a kind piece of jewelry, bottle of wine, book or curio for everyone on your holiday gift list.
A slightly off the beaten path shopping district is Bothell’s Country Village which features dozens of unique shops, restaurants, cafes and art studios as well as a beautiful strolling park and duck pond. Shoppers will find a range of specialty items from high-end products to antiques to children’s clothing to unique hand-crafted pieces.
Thanksgiving Day dinning options are abundant this year for the whole family at Tulalip Resort Casino. The esteemed culinary team at Tulalip is whipping up turkey madness for November 24 with featured feasts from relaxed-casual to modern-sophisticated dining.
Tulalip Bay Chef/GM Jeremy Taisey’s Thanksgiving Day specials include Slow Roasted Turkey Roulade with wild boar bacon and maple vinaigrette and Sage Cured Confit of Turkey Leg served with cranberry, Cointreau preserves, and crispy skin. Both dishes are served with homemade focaccia, hazelnut and porcini stuffing, sous vide endive with wild mushroom and butternut squash puree, and a pumpkin spiced marshmallow toadstool. The special dinner pricing is $40 per person plus sales tax and gratuity available from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Snohomish County has plenty of options for Black Friday shoppers seeking out a deal. With only days left until the biggest shopping day of the year and the added enticement of the Stay, Shop and Save program, let the bargain hunting begin!
