Day five of Vancouver Fashion Week F/W 2017 drew in…
After many months of anticipation, Hudson’s Bay has released the Team Canada Opening Ceremonies uniforms, designed by world-renowned Canadian fashion designers Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared2, for the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Historically, Canada has always played it safe when it came to our Olympic Team look, using a simple Canada wordmark against a palette of red and white. By contrast, Dsquared2 has given us a unique and refreshing look for the Rio Games, offering up a red 3 button blazer with sporty black cuffs and a zippered chest pocket. Team Canada Opening Ceremonies uniforms collection represents a more formal take on athletic fashion and includes a tailored white long sleeve t-shirt, sporty black pants and black and white leather sneakers.
Public reaction has been mixed towards the Miami based Dsquared2 designs and many question that Team Canada uniforms may be uncomfortable for Rio’s August humidity and temperatures that average 25 C / 80 F.
Biggest Fashion Stage
The Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies is arguably the biggest fashion stage in the world. Before an audience of more than one billion viewers, over 130 countries show off their athleticism, patriotism and, indeed, style.
Official Outfitter of Team Canada
Hudson’s Bay will be outfitting all 315 athletes competing for the Canadian Olympic Team as well as the approximately 170 athletes competing for the Canadian Paralympic Team. This Olympic clothing kit includes Closing Ceremonies and Podium looks as well as village wear, all designed exclusively by HBC’s in-house team of designers. Inspired by the Canadian flag, the maple leaf was used in outline and solid form. The collection captures the strength of Canada, unifying performance, patriotism and stylishness to create a look that is iconic, modern, and most of all, passionately Canadian.
Official Team Canada replica wear will be available at all Hudson’s Bay locations across Canada beginning May 4 with select key pieces available on line at thebay.com today.
