Puffy jackets offer more style and color today

When growing up, people wore huge sleeping bag style winter coats. Today’s down jackets are not what our parents wore.

For many years, puffy coats were for ski bunnies and mountain adventurers. This gave birth to clothing brands such as a Columbia, North Face and Canada Goose who have revolutionize the down jacket by developing ways to compact down feathers more tightly between the fabrics, adding thermal body heat reflecting linings and improved on stitching quality.

When selecting a down jacket, find one that fits you well and gives you the warmth required in your climate zone. Keep it slim as possible, save that heavy duty down jacket for your next visit to the great white north to view the polar bears in the wild.

One of my favorite women down jackets this season is from United Colors of Benetton, nicely tailored, quilted and available in terrific colors such as Yellow and Blue. Available in Benetton shops worldwide and online.

Tis the season to dress warmly and well. Merry Christmas to all!
